The Campton, NH Police Department is accepting applications for a Detective to fill an immediate position. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of full-time law enforcement experience with knowledge of conducting investigations, criminal procedure, interviewing and interrogations, evidence collection, and warrant drafting.

The starting salary range is $62,376 – $72,224 ($29.98hr - $34.72hr), depending on experience and qualifications. The Detective works a schedule consisting of four ten-hour shifts to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position with an assigned take-home vehicle within a reasonable driving distance of the police station.

The Detective supplements our patrol officers, and the following duties and responsibilities are considered essential to the position; Patrol the community as a uniform police officer or a plain clothes officer and assist patrol officers as necessary, operate both as a member of a team and independently at incidents of uncertain duration, conduct complete and accurate investigations, process crime scenes and collect evidence, draft search and arrest warrants, oversee the investigatory functions of the department, as well as assign tasks to officers to that end, and appear at Grand Jury to present cases for indictment.

The Police Department is proud to have a contemporary grooming and tattoo policy allowing visible tattoos above the wrist and below the neck and beards to be worn year-round. Officer health is also paramount, and officers are equipped to patrol with load-bearing external vests.

The Police Department is currently comprised of 7 full-time officers, a full-time prosecuting attorney, and administrative staff. Located along Interstate 93 at the foothills of the White Mountains our officers provide 24-hour coverage to approximately 3,300 full-time residents with an increase of population during tourist seasons.

Employees receive a benefits package to include 13 paid holidays, vacation leave, accrued sick leave, personal leave, merit pay, and enrollment in the NH Retirement System. Employees are offered a choice of health insurance plans with either 93% or 85% of the monthly premium covered by the Town. Employees who are covered by another health insurance plan receive an additional $5,100 annually.
