The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division State Police, State Office Complex Police Force has a full-time vacancy for SOCPF Police Officer II (Campus Patrol Officer II), SOC Title 33-1012 SUPS OF POLICE-P1. This position has a 40 hour work week and is considered non-exempt.

Summary:

Provides police coverage to the New Hampshire Hospital and the Governor Hugh J. Gallen State Office Park South through enforcement of federal, state and local laws and established policies and procedures, as well as providing general and specialized services to patients/residents, employees, and citizens.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Associate's degree OR equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Experience must be as a certified police officer (full-time certified or part-time certified), security officer, correctional officer, active-duty military, or mental health worker providing direct care to patients.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license

Other Requirements:

For initial appointment into a Division of State Police law enforcement position:

• Age/Citizenship: Must be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen on date of examination • Eyesight and Hearing: Must have at least 20/100 in each eye uncorrected and corrected to 20/40 (near vision) and 20/30 (distant vision) in each eye and have normal uncorrected depth and color perception; must possess normal hearing sufficient to enable performance of essential job functions. • Examinations: a. Must pass a physical agility test designed to measure ability to perform essential job functions

b. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation including a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check, polygraph examination and psychological examination

c. Must pass a comprehensive medical examination, provided at the State's expense and performed by a physician selected by the NH Division of State Police, indicating no physical conditions exist prohibiting the performance of essential job functions

d. Must pass unannounced drug testing

If currently employed in a Division of State Police law enforcement position:

  1. Service record must be free of any major infraction of divisional discipline for the past three (3) years

  2. Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information

Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 1+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. NH full-time police officer certification within the time frame established by the NH Police Standards and Training Council, and within 6 months of hire. Must maintain police officer certification throughout tenure of service.

  2. Completion of the Department of Health and Human Services Mental Health Worker Training Program within the timeframe established by NH Hospital and no later than 12 months after hire

When applicable, the work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. An employee in trainee status shall meet the minimum qualifications within the period of time specified on the SJD, not to exceed one year of being hired into this position.

Conducts patrols and inspections on foot and in marked police vehicles to ensure the security and protection of multiple local, state, and federal agencies located on the campus of the Governor Hugh J. Gallen State Office Park South with an emphasis on New Hampshire Hospital and mental health issues.

Appears in court as a witness in traffic violations, criminal cases or other administrative hearings as required; prepares cases for prosecution as required and serves warrants, domestic violence orders (DVOs) and juvenile petitions as applicable.

Monitors movements and behavior of potentially dangerous patients/residents and responds to and controls high risk situations involving out of control behaviors and psychiatric emergencies including the potential for injury to self and/or others.

Intervenes in disputes to restore peace and ensure safety of the public and parties involved, including confronting hostile persons, mediating disputes, and advising of rights of process.

Assists with the admission of patients to a state institution, searches for, locates and returns AWOL patients as applicable, transports patients to and from other institutions and court, both in and out of state.

Writes investigative and other reports, including citations, affidavits, complaints and warrants using appropriate grammar. Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses and suspects.

Enforces parking and traffic regulations, to include initiating traffic stops in marked cruisers to identify and apprehend violators, issuing verbal and written warnings and tickets, making in-custody arrests, and investigating traffic crashes.

Arrests suspects, forcibly if necessary, using handcuff and other restraints; subdues resisting suspects using maneuvers, approved weapons, and hands and feet in self-defense.

Searches people, vehicles, buildings, and outdoor areas to detect and collect evidence and substances that provide the basis of criminal offenses and infractions: detains suspicious persons or vehicles.

Unloads, loads, aims and fires handguns, and other firearms from a variety of body positions under stressful conditions that justify the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards.
