THE COMPANY

The Dublin Lake Club is a small, private, summer-only club located in Dublin, New Hampshire offering its members golf, tennis, beach, and sailing opportunities. Its Sailing Club operates every day 10:00 am – 6:00 pm from late June through Labor Day, except in cases of bad weather, providing DLC members and their guests access to a small fleet of sailboats, canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. The Club-owned fleet includes RS Quests, Bic open skiffs, Fevas, Sunfishes, Daysailers, and a Dyer dingy, plus an assortment of canoes, kayaks, and SUPs. There are also two motorboats utilized by the sailing staff in the performance of their duties. The sailing Master is a seasonal position starting early June through Labor Day.

SAILING MASTER RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Manage daily operations with an emphasis on service and safety. Ensure that members and guests are welcomed and assisted. Help members and guests with equipment, including rigging, launching, and returning boats. Offer one-on-one instruction and group sailing clinics for children and adults. Ensure that boat and water safety rules are followed by all members, guests, and staff. Be sure that at all times the Sailing Club staff is available and ready to assist people on the water.

*Manage the sailing staff of 5-6 part-time Sailing Assistants. Set work schedule for staff, ensuring proper coverage of the Sailing Club facilities at all times. Train staff as necessary. Coach staff on maintaining a friendly and helpful atmosphere. Though the Sailing Master’s hours may vary, it is expected that the Sailing Master will work on site at least five days / week including weekends.

* Manage sailing program offering regular children’s clinics, weekend races, and some special events. Encourage member participation in Sailing Club activities and publicize them in DLC communications to members.

*Manage facilities and equipment. Lead the assembly and organization of DLC boats and equipment at the beginning of the season. Maintain all boats, boat parts, sails, lines, engines, floats, buildings, and grounds (ie keep things ship shape) during the season. Make sure moorings are sound. Lead the storage of equipment and closing down of the Sailing Club facilities at the end of the season.

* Assist DLC members with their own boats stored / moored at the DLC.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

* Friendly and outgoing with good people skills, including working with and being a role model for children; able to make lessons fun while setting appropriate boundaries.

* Good leadership skills; prior experience leading a team, ideally in a work setting.

* Experience in sailing, maintaining, and racing a variety of small boats.

*Experience and comfort handling inflatable and Whaler-type motor boats.

If candidate does not have a NH Commercial Boat Operator’s License, or equivalent from another state, they must be prepared to obtain it soon after beginning work. DLC will pay the license fee.

* US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor certification is highly desirable, though not required. DLC will pay L 1 course tuition should the applicant arrange to take and pass the class before the DLC season begins.

* Current Basis First Aid and CPR certification.

The Sailing Master reports to the Sailing Committee Chair and to the DLC General Manager.

Ideally the candidate will be available to work from June 19, 2023 through Labor Day, September 4, 2023, though start and end dates may be negotiable based on the need to return to school or college. For a non-local candidate, housing will be provided.

DLC offers premium compensation, commensurate with qualifications and xperience. Details can be discussed during the interview.
