Job Summary:

The Triage Medical Assistant is responsible to take incoming or making outgoing health call center calls, create a case in the AMCM electronic record system, take preliminary information and prep the caller’s chart, within the scope of their scope of practice, for the Triage Registered Nurse. This position may also assist with medication refills and paging health care providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Greets patient telephonically, provides emergency script per policy, then opens a case in the AMCM electronic record system.

· Recognizes and treats emergency patients as a priority.

  • Documents relevant past medical history, past and current medications.
  • Verifies age-appropriate vaccine status (when applicable).
  • Documents chief complain, duration, primary signs and symptoms.
  • Takes medication refill requests via phone, documents in the AMCM electronic record system, pages physicians, and calls pharmacies (when appropriate).
  • Following clear and standard guidelines, assist in determining patient acuity, transfer emergency patients to the Triage Registered Nurse or place the non-emergency call into the call queue.
  • Collaborates with members of the health care team (Call Center Representatives, Registered Nurses, Social Workers) in coordinating patient information and AMCM electronic record system documentation.
  • Performs variety of other clerical functions such as answering calls, providing general health information within the scope of practice, coordinating with external call centers, physicians, physician offices and internal staff.
  • Monitoring call queue.
  • Providing general benefit or other non-clinical information as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate electronic record documentation and ensures that documentation meets or exceeds policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to, and follow policies, procedures and protocols for, emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

· Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program required.

· 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant required.

· Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work well as a member of a team.

· Computer skills required.

· Must be willing and able to participate in evening, weekend, and holiday coverage according to needs of the department.

Required Licensure/Certification Skills:

· Current certification as a Medical Assistant preferred but not required.

Knowledge and skills: (i.e., verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, organization skills, computer knowledge, sales knowledge, etc.)

· Excellent telephone and customer service skills.

· Ability to multi-task and cross-train.

· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Ability to work in a team environment.

· Follows established policy and procedure at all times.

· Able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as staffing needs indicate.

Physical Demands: (i.e., if applicable, lifting boxes or equipment, indicate maximum weight, electrical wiring, painting, etc.)

· Lifting up to 25 lbs. on occasion

Work Environment: (i.e., office, mailroom, construction (cable wiring, telecomm), etc.)

· Home office or New Hampshire-based office

· HIPAA compliant home office work space that is verifiable through video/pictures

· Stable and secure internet with high bandwidth

Experience:
