Energy Markets Consultant - Distributed Resources

As a Consultant with ICF's Energy Markets practice, you will have the opportunity to build your consulting skills and industry knowledge while advancing grid decarbonization, integration of distributed energy resources, electrification, and resilience across North America. Your projects will be cross-cutting, involving strategy, technology, planning, operations, policy, regulation, and improving electric customer outcomes. Our work is focused on developing actionable insights, strategies, and plans to support the evolution of utility systems to achieve our clients' environmental, business, and policy objectives.

We are looking for an individual who balances strong communication abilities with analytical skills, who can take ownership and accountability over project tasks, and who can work collaboratively with ICF colleagues and clients.

This is a full-time position, either in an office full time, a hybrid of remote work and in-office, or fully remote. Preference will be given to candidates who can work in ICF's Reston, VA or New York, NY, or other offices.

Responsibilities :

+ Support and conduct consulting work:

+ Conduct policy and regulatory research and support, and technical analysis for corporate and government clients' deliverables

+ Synthesize and analyze complex multidisciplinary topics at the intersection of regulatory policy, economics, engineering, and business

+ Provide strategic planning support for clients planning and operating distribution systems under changing policy environments and evolving market conditions

+ Prepare, support, develop, and deliver internal and external presentations

+ Complete high-quality deliverables on time and with appropriate attention to detail

+ Engage with clients in project meetings.

+ Support client engagements on a range of DER integration topics such as solar PV, energy storage, electric vehicles, demand response, distribution system planning and operation, and resilience

+ Work closely with ICF's Energy Market practice leads and our marketing function to inform the continued development of ICF's service offerings

+ Support business development efforts with market research and proposal development

Minimum Qualification :

+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy, or other discipline relevant to the Energy industry

+ Minimum of three (3+) years of related Energy industry experience

+ Direct experience with the Electric Power Utility sector and/or prior consulting/commercial project management experience

Skills:

+ Ability to work within a project team and contribute high quality individual work products

+ Written and verbal communication skills

+ Organizational and time management skills

+ Ability to conduct industry research, develop subject matter expertise, and distill complex information into key messages

+ Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to ask questions and listen for understanding

+ A client-centered mindset

+ Motivation to learn and take on new challenges

Preferred Skills/Experience:

+ Master's Degree in Engineering, Economics, Public Policy, Business, or other relevant discipline

+ Five (5+) years of related energy industry experience

+ Energy Systems and/or Electrical Engineering experience

+ Demonstrated experience contributing to complex projects and multidisciplinary teams

+ Track record working on distributed energy resource technologies opportunities and challenges

+ Experience spotting business opportunities through research/analysis
