A Day in the life of a Hospice Chaplain

As a Hospice Chaplain, you will play an important role in providing spiritual support to patients, caregivers, and the Hospice Interdisciplinary Group. By listening to your patient's needs and completing a spiritual assessment, you will develop a comprehensive care plan that includes direct spiritual support and end-of-life counsel in accordance with their beliefs.

Your work will provide increased comfort, reduced anxiety, and improved emotional well-being to patients during their end-of-life journey. You will find your job rewarding and fulfilling as you support patients on their spiritual journey and gain valuable experiences in caring for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Working alongside a talented multi-disciplinary team, you can expand your skillset and knowledge through ongoing professional development opportunities. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to provide education to staff, clergy, and community groups on the importance of spiritual support at end-of-life. Your contribution to the interdisciplinary team will help provide the best possible care for patients and their families.

Qualifications

  • Masters of Divinity or equivalent Graduate Degree from an accredited Seminary or Theological school.
  • Be ordained, commissioned or similarly recognized by his/her faith group to function in a ministry of pastoral care.
  • A minimum of two units CPE.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing and vehicle insurance
