University Instructors, LLC is recruiting for immediate placement of a special education paraprofessional to support Dover School District. As a paraprofessional, you will directly impact students in special education programs. You will also partner with teachers to provide instruction, behavior management, and primary care to students.

Summary

Classification 2 Aides are expected to perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to working with children in groups or one-on-one, work under the direction of the supervising teacher, and will be assigned clerical and supervisory tasks. Classification 2 Aides will be exposed to confidential information and must maintain confidentiality. Classification 2 Aides must work cooperatively with staff members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Special Education Aide

  • Work with student(s) on academic tasks and skills based upon lesson plans developed by the professional staff.
  • Assist with the physical, emotional, and health needs of students, such as lifting, feeding toileting/diapering and personal hygiene. Some of these tasks may be delegated and performed under the direct supervision of the school nurse.
  • Accompany students to non-academic settings to provide assistance and monitor behavior. Such events include specials (music, art, and physical education), assemblies, field trips, cafeteria and playground.
  • Serve as a resource person, when requested, to the case manager and participate in meetings when appropriate.
  • Support student(s) behavior plan under teacher guidance.
  • Participate in In-Service workshops and training sessions provided by the district, if requested.
  • May assist with physical or occupational therapy following instructions from teacher or other personnel.
  • Cover various duties, such as cafeteria and recess supervision as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.
  • May be required to cover the classroom for brief periods to facilitate teacher attendance at IEP meetings, etc.
  • Assist the teacher in preparation of materials on an as needed basis.
  • Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the administrator or teacher

Supervisory Responsibilities

May include one-on-one, small group, and large group supervision or as assigned by supervising teacher. Education and/or Experience High School Diploma required; some college preferred.

Other Skills and Requirements

Computer Skills Typing, word processing, and general computer knowledge required.

Minimum Qualifications

We are seeking individuals who have relevant experience working with special education students. Additionally, you must hold a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (i.e., GED) and hold ONE of the following:

  • a bachelor’s degree OR
  • an associate degree OR
  • two years of study at an institution of higher education (i.e., have earned 72 quarter hours or 48 semester hours) OR
  • score of 460+ on the ParaPro assessment (more information available at https://www.ets.org/parapro)
